ALICE BELL - WRITER

Alice Bell’s first feature film SUBURBAN MAYHEM was invited to screen in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2006. Alice won the AWGIE for Best Original Screenplay that year.

In 2009 Alice completed a 5 month intensive writer’s workshop at the prestigious Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam, producing screenplay GIN & TONIC, which is now in its final stages of development with Hattie Dalton attached as director, Leah Churchill-Brown and Amanda Higgs as producers and Jan Chapman as Script Consultant.

Alice was an original writer on police rescue drama RUSH (Series 1, 2 and 3), produced by John Edwards and Mimi Butler. She wrote for Jacquelin Perske and Claudia Karvan on their spooky comedy SPIRITED (Season 2) (Alice was nominated for an Awgie award for Spirited S2 in 2012), she also was one of only five writers on the ABC’s award winning series THE SLAP (the “Connie” episode) for which she won an AWGIE award in August 2012.

Alice is one of the original writers of PUBERTY BLUES (Channel Ten), the 2012 television adaptation of the Australian classic novel by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey, produced by John Edwards and Imogen Banks. She wrote three of the eight episodes in the first series and four of the nine in the second series. Alice was script producer on the second series with Tony McNamara.

Alice was nominated for ‘Best Screenplay in Television’ at the 2013 AACTA Awards for Puberty Blues S1 (Episode 5) with Tony Macnamara.  Puberty Blues had a total of 6 nominations in the 2013 AACTA Awards and won the AACTA for Best Television Drama Series of 2013.  Alice has recently created the 6 part ABC series called “The Beautiful Lie”.

ʻSuburban Mayhem is the first produced screenplay by Alice Bell.  And I’m not the only one that thinks it’s terrific;  she won an Awgie Award for it recently."
